Description

"This course will cover the history of major technologies from the beginning of humankind to the present day. The course will begin with the uses of technology by prehistoric peoples. The course will continue with the use of technology by the ancient civilizations of the Mesopotamians, the Egyptians, the Greeks and the Romans. The course will then consider technological development during the Middle Ages and Renaissance. The course will conclude with the study of the Industrial Revolution and its impact on modern society. By studying the history of technology thematically, students will learn to appreciate how technology has played a major role in the history of the West. Students will explore how society shapes technology and how technology shapes society. Students in technical career programs will learn to appreciate more meaningfully their future role as technical specialists."
