Description

We live in the most technological society that has ever existed. How did this happen and what does it mean for us? This course examines technological development in North America from Native American inhabitation to the present and considers how past technologies relate to future developments. Topics include: industrialization, the development of media and computer technologies, environmental change, the relationship of technology to race, class and gender divisions, and ethical debates regarding the appropriate use of technology.
